A Reiki Master's Travel Survival Kit

They say everyone needs a hobby, one of my big ones has become Archery. There's something very Zen about having to tune everything out and focus on the processes one has to go through in order to shoot consistently. The range at Eros Archery in Thomaston, CT has become like a home away from home for myself and my children. The coaches helped develop such a love for archery that last weekend I, along with the rest of team Eros, participated in the 57th USA Archery Indoor Nationals.

This required traveling and a two night stay in Fiskdale, MA. For people who are, let's call it 'sensitive,' travel and large events can add additional layers of challenges. Over time I seem to have developed an 'essentials' list to pack for trips, a portable spiritual travel survival kit if you will (links to where I purchased everything included at the end of this blog). As it was my first time competing with, as Coach Jenny likes to say "300 of your closest friends" I expanded my little kit further.

USA Archery Nationals run over a few weeks in different locations, the MA location ran for 3 days with multiple time slots, competitors shot for two (or 3 for some youth who also participated in the JOAD Nationals) rounds.

We arrived mid-day Friday to first watch one of my team mates, before it was my turn for my first round at 5pm. I have 4 base go to things I wear whenever I leave my house this time included. First, I use a roll on oil of Palo Santo. Palo Santo is my favorite cleansing tool, something about the scent of it is just my jam. Having the ability to roll it directly onto my skin before a busy day helps me feel grounded and my energy clear. I also always put on crystal bracelets to support my day, which I sometimes change up depending on my needs, but I always have my core three of; amethyst for psychic protection, black tourmaline for protection against low vibration and environmental energies, and smoky quartz for stress reduction and emotional stability. This time around to these I added, in no particular order; tiger's eye for confidence, carnelian for courage, green aventurine for luck, and citrine for success.

Before I knew it, it was my turn to shoot. Despite the fact that the Archery community is very supportive and thus far every tournament I've participated in I've shot with the nicest people, it turns out that I am indeed still human and have a bit of difficulty keeping myself centered. Cue the greatest hack that you may have never heard of, courtesy of one of my Archery friends. You see, she told me that eating something sour calms your Vagus Nerve. If you're unfamiliar; the Vagus Nerve is the main nerve of your parasympathetic nervous system. It runs all the way from your brain to your large intestine and plays a major part in involuntary sensory and motor functions like; heart rate, breathing, skin and muscle sensations, and mood among others. When it is calm or 'activated' one of the things it does is lower stress and anxiety...sign me up for some of that! There are lots of different ways to achieve this, and although I try to avoid candy and natural flavors, sour candy in a tin was the perfect thing. It fit neatly in a pouch on my quiver, was fast, mess free and most importantly worked like a charm!

After a very long day it was time to check into the hotel. Cue the rest of my kit. First thing I did as soon as I walked into my room was to use a Smudge Spray to clear away any residual energies from previous occupants, because lets face it, hotel rooms can have some icky vibes. In fact I once stayed in a hotel attached to a casino and wound up feeling physically ill from all the incompatible energies, cleansing the room with the spray makes it feel like it goes from 'ew' to neutral. I also brought along some tinctures; one for energy, one stress blend, and passion flower also for stress. I wound up only needing to take the passion flower to help me wind down and rest up for the next day.

Because of prior commitments the rest of my family was joining me later on day 2, which allowed me to use the last items that i brought along. Those being my metal pendulum and magnet, which are my go-to tools for my Emotion Code practice. Technically I can do without these but they help me to keep Emotion Code sessions flow smoothly and easily, and let's be honest, when four people are crammed in a room I tend to not do the Emotion Code as it requires at least 10min of being centered without distractions and interruptions. Not that morning though! That morning I was able to do a quick session on myself, releasing some trapped emotions that were affecting me that weekend. There you have it! My must have travel essentials to support the spiritual individual, I hope they help you as much as they help me.

(If you're curious how the tournament went I was very happy with the results. Our team showed up, some faced challenges, some shot great, others didn't perform quite like they wanted, but we all had a blast!)
